Sutherland - Microsoft Community Technology Center in Chennai, India
Celebrates Anniversary: 1200 students trained in a year

 July 18, 2008 – ROCHESTER, NEW YORK

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK – July 18, 2008 - Sutherland Global Services, a leading multi-national Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) provider, today announced the completion of its year-long project to set up a Community Technology Center (CTC) in Chennai, India. Sutherland and Microsoft have worked together in this initiative to provide technology access and skills training to the community of Chennai. Thus far, the CTC has trained over 1200 students and currently partners with 97 local community organizations to continue to attract new students.

The CTC was established as part of Sutherland’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative to strengthen the technical knowledge base of local, underprivileged communities. The digital literacy curriculum consists of course material provided by Microsoft Learning and is designed to increase basic computer awareness and provide students with advanced computer skills aimed at increasing their employability. Students receive a comprehensive learning experience in the presence of skilled Sutherland trainers in classrooms that are fully equipped with multi media enabled computers, internet access, printers, digital teaching aids and recreational technology. The CTC provides training courses in both English and Tamil and has been able to achieve graduation rates of 75%.

“We are delighted to work with Sutherland to bring technology and career opportunities to benefit the under-served community in Chennai,” said Tim Hopper, Program Manager, Microsoft Corporation. “The Community Technology Center will help bridge the digital divide by providing computing skills which are increasingly necessary for global citizens of the twenty-first century as well as create technology awareness by showcasing how technology can transform lives.”

Sutherland Global Services CEO, Dilip Vellodi, added, “Sutherland is proud to join together with Microsoft. The Community Technology Center is a testament to our joint vision and commitment to the development of the local communities where we do business. This initiative is consistent with Sutherland’s mission to stand firmly behind causes and technologies which foster, support and assist in advancing global youth.”
